Easy Homemade Natural Powder Laundry Detergent | Budget Friendly Recipe

This DIY Natural Laundry Detergent is so easy to make and is so much more cost effective than the store bought detergent. It is amazing on my family’s sensitive skin and is no match for the tough stains I run through my machine :) It will take you less than 10 minutes to pull together and you’ll only need 3 ingredients!

I love my homemade laundry detergent, it's seriously so great. And now that I know it can hold up to the baby messes, I’m even more impressed with it!

I'm always looking to make my life easier (especially now that I'm a mom!). I heard in a moms group that I'm in that powder detergent is better for front loading washing machines and since we just got a new set, I thought I'd try it out!

Both Ryan and Parker have such sensitive skin. We've been managing P's eczema since she's been about 2 months old, so I don't choose my laundry detergent lightly. This has been so amazing for both of them! No irritations or anything with this stuff. Probably because I know EXACTLY what the ingredients are. Does it bother anyone else that no detergent has any sort of ingredient list??? Even the natural stuff!  Anyway, I have been using this for a few months now and I refuse to use anything else :)

But will I save money?

You know I don’t DIY any thing unless it’s going to save me $ and time!

Well, the answer is yes!

Here is my cost breakdown:

2 boxes baking soda = $1.30

1/2 box washing soda = $1.80

1 bar castille soap = $3.69

Total = $6.79

This recipe gives you 72 loads! That's about $.09 per load

For comparison....the seventh generation soap that I was using before is $12.99 for 80 Concentrated loads ($.16 per load) So, you are saving almost 1/2 of the cost for natural detergent!

Special Supplies Needed

  • Castile Soap

They sell this at my local grocery store and target. But sometimes the variety is limited, so you may need to order what scent you want!

  • Washing Soda

  • Food Processor

If you don’t have or want a food processor, you can use a cheese grater to grate up the soap real small!
